At the Riley Jean Foundation, our mission is to provide vital support and resources for families suffering from tragic loss. We aim to raise awareness and fund programs focused on preventing accidents involving children, with a special emphasis on window fall prevention. Lastly, to provide support to other foundations involved with child loss and/or child suffering.
Riley was an angel from heaven, my rainbow baby. We had Charlee first and were not sure we would have another, but Charlee kept pushing us for a baby sister. After very little trying, Riley was born. We were all so in love and Charlee was so happy to be a big sister. Riley loved life and everything in it so much. She helped me to see beauty in everything in this world. Her spunky spirit was contagious. She was very sociable, loved new people and she loved all animals, even bugs. Most of all, she loved her family more than anything. Charlee and she would joke that they loved each other more than us, and we were totally ok with that. They had so much love and a sister bond that was so special. They were each other’s favorite people.
At Riley Jean Foundation, our mission is to provide support and resources for families suffering from tragic loss. We understand the profound impact that the loss of a child can have on a family, and we are dedicated to helping those in need. Additionally, we aim to raise awareness and fund programs that prevent accidents with children, specifically focusing on window fall prevention. Funds will also to used to help pass legislation to protect children from window falls in residential buildings. We also strive to support other foundations that are involved in addressing child loss and child suffering. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of families facing these heartbreaking challenges.
Each year, 3,500 to 5,000 U.S. children are hospitalized after falling from an open window. These falls are preventable.
Over 94% of the windows that children fall through have a window screen in place. Window screens that are not rated for fall prevention provide no protection. Window screens provide a false sense of security, as most parents are unfamiliar with the danger.
One-third of children hospitalized after a window fall require intensive care, and one in four children return home with some disability.
Children ages two to five are at the greatest risk of falling out of a window—and most of these falls are preventable.
Not allowing the window to open more than four inches is key to preventing window falls.
United States Consumer Product Safety Commission lists the top 5 hidden home hazards and window safety is one of them. This includes preventing strangulation of cords from blinds and installing window guards or stops to prevent falls.
