At the Riley Jean Foundation, our mission is to support families who have experienced the tragic loss of a child while working to prevent future childhood injuries and fatalities. We raise awareness and fund programs focused on child-safety education, with a particular emphasis on window fall prevention. In addition, we advocate for life-saving legislation to make window-safety measures a standard requirement, beginning in Florida and expanding nationwide. We also collaborate with and support other organizations dedicated to helping children and families affected by loss or serious hardship.

Riley was our angel from heaven—our rainbow baby. We had Charlee first and weren’t sure we would have another child, but Charlee was determined to have a baby sister. After very little trying, Riley was born, and from the moment she arrived, our family felt complete. Charlee was overjoyed to be a big sister, and the bond they shared was instant and extraordinary. They were each other’s favorite people.
Riley loved life in the purest way. She was joyful, spunky, and endlessly curious. She loved meeting new people, adored animals of every kind—even bugs—and had a way of helping us see beauty in the simplest moments. Most of all, she loved her family deeply. She would tell me often that I was the best mommy in the whole wide world, and we would compare how much we loved each other—to the moon, the sun, the earth, and beyond. I held her whenever I could, knowing she was my last baby, never imagining how short our time would be.
At the Riley Jean Foundation, our mission is to provide compassionate support and meaningful resources to families navigating the unimaginable loss of a child. We understand firsthand the devastating impact this tragedy has on a family, and we are committed to helping others through emotional support, practical assistance, and connection during their most difficult times.
We are also dedicated to raising awareness and funding programs focused on preventing childhood accidents, with a primary focus on window fall prevention. Through education, community outreach, distribution of window safety devices, and advocacy for stronger safety legislation, we are working to create safer homes and protect children from preventable tragedies. We also proudly support organizations that share our commitment to helping children and families affected by loss and suffering.
The Riley Jean Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and all operational costs are personally covered by the Daugherty family, allowing 100% of donations to directly support our mission. Every contribution helps provide life-saving window safety education and prevention devices to families, supports efforts to pass legislation that protects children in residential buildings, and offers critical support to grieving families. Together, we can turn tragedy into purpose, prevent future accidents, and help save children’s lives.

Each year, 3,500 to 5,000 U.S. children are hospitalized after falling from an open window. These falls are preventable.

Over 94% of the windows that children fall through have a window screen in place. Window screens that are not rated for fall prevention provide no protection. Window screens provide a false sense of security, as most parents are unfamiliar with the danger.

One-third of children hospitalized after a window fall require intensive care, and one in four children return home with some disability.

Not allowing the window to open more than four inches is key to preventing window falls.

Children ages two to five are at the greatest risk of falling out of a window—and most of these falls are preventable.

United States Consumer Product Safety Commission lists the top 5 hidden home hazards and window safety is one of them. This includes preventing strangulation of cords from blinds and installing window guards or stops to prevent falls.
